7-17-2008 Attention racers and support teams - As of this time the "Southern California Bicycle Festival" is
postponed until further notice. I apologize for the inconvenience. This in no way will conflict with the

November finals!

a special event! PHOTOS HERE
6-18-2008 Stay tuned the 3rd and final race is going to be great. Registration will open up by the end of this week. The
registration for the Southern California Bike fest will also be open by Friday this week!
6-18-2008 Thank you all for supporting the June 14th 12 Hour event. It was a fantastic venue and a great race! I
applaud the racers for braving the heat and really turning out the laps. You guys rock! The results are now posted
HERE.
6-18-2008 What a fantastic weekend for bike racing! The “12 Hours Of Temecula” had the largest number of
participants to date. With over 150 teams signed up ready for battle. Not only with the other racers but with the hot and
sunny SoCal temps as well. The new venue change was welcome with open arms. We had 3 pools around us and 100-
year-old oak trees surrounding the venue to help with shade. The green grass around the Huck Finn pond made the pit
areas so nice as well!
The course for the race was a fun mix of swooping single-track ridgelines and short steep hills. Of course we can’t leave
out the Damn Climb. It is a longish fire road climb in the beginning of the race and helps to separate the racers for all
the fun on the backside. The terrain is mostly rocky and open with a lot of scrub brush and even a few cactus thrown in
for good measure. Some of the upper ridgelines show you great views of the Temecula Valley and the surrounding
Agua Tibia wilderness. Often times if you look hard enough you can even see the Palomar Observatory. The laps were
11 miles with over 1350 ft of elevation changes.
The day started with an awesome 60 degrees start at 9:00 am. The field was super strong with a block long group of
racers lined up ready for the parade lap around the campground. The buzz was in the air with the beautiful new venue
change and racers coming from all over the US and overseas. It was great to see the excitement and passion coming
out to support a long time grassroots event. By the time the siren sounded the racers were off and thundering around
the campground with the streets lined with support crews, families, and cheering crowds. The first racer around the
parade lap was KHS/Cytomax pro Chuck Jenkins. For his efforts Chuck won a cool $25. Chuck also took the King of The
Hill competition and nabbed another $25. The Queen of the mountain competition crowned Erika Tieszen, and awarded
her with $25. The Damn hill climb is a signature section of the course and everyone looked great coming up the first lap.
As the day progressed the temps shot up to the mid 90’s and the SoCal sunshine was taking its toll on a few racers. But
the determination and motivation from the riders was awesome! They kept rolling along and persevered through the
heat. The solo riders were out in force with over 75 racers signed up. It is hard to comprehend how many miles and
hours these folks put in by the end of the day. They rock!
Later in the day the temps started cooling off while the racing was still hot. The solos were plugging away on laps 6-8
while the teams were already doing battle for laps 9-10. By 4:30 the temps had dropped down to the low 80’s and some
fast laps were being thrown down. The fastest male lap of the day and $50 went to Sean Donovan another
KHS/Cytomax rider. While the fastest female lap and $50 went to Heidi Volpe.
The day ended up being one of the longest of the year. Mandatory lights were to be put on for any laps after 7:30pm. It
didn’t really get dark until after 8:00pm. So this was a great day for non-night riders to excel. Which is mostly everyone!
By the end of the race a great time was had by all. We had the most swag to give away than ever before. With the Ayup
light sets, Spinergy wheel sets, THE backpack and kits, Sockguy socks, Nirve (cheetah) Cruiser bike from Cycopath bike
shop, Intense tires, Cytomax nutrition, Vigor helmets, and so much more! It was awesome. That is one of my favorite
parts of the race. The swag raffle is a great way for us to give a little back. Also a big congrats to racers who received a
Promoter ticket on the course. These tickets were raffle tickets I gave away while on the course. I know there were tons
of folks who I didn’t see on the course doing great things. But for the ones I did see I said congrats for a job well done
and gave them a $10 ticket. By the end of the day I gave out about $400 worth of these tickets. They deserved it!
While the results were being finished and the raffles sorted the racers were treated to some free beer. Which was gone
quick! I can’t believe how fast these racers can throw down some drinks. By the time I was done with the raffles there
was none left for a dry raspy race promoter. But hey I didn’t race!
All in all it was another great race day in Southern California. I look forward to seeing you all again on September 6th &
7th for the “Southern California Bike Fest” and again on November 15th for the “12 Hours of Temecula” #3
Championship round. Drop a Gear and Disappear! See you in the dirt!
5-23-2008 The course will be marked the weekend prior to the race.
5-23-2008 The course maps and course description is up. Either check out the 12 Hours page or click here for either
Course Map - Course Description
5-12-2008 We have had to change the course a bit to accommodate the venue change. The new ridgeline singletrack
will remain but we will not be going down the bridges trail. Instead we will be coming up the ambulance climb and turning
down the infamous "Tunnel of Love" trail. After the tunnel we will cruis along Vics trail and the BMX track trail and on to
the meadows and Marine Corp hill and home. Stay tuned for the trail map!
5-12-2008 Well a big update for the 2nd 2008 June 14th 12 Hours event. We are moving the event to another part of
the resort. We will now be staging the event by the swimming pools and the Huck Finn pond. We have been trying to
make this happen for a few years now. It is a great place to stage. We have easy access to the pools and the water
slide. Campinig is not a problem. There are plenty of sites super close by. We will also have "JUICE IT UP" and
"WETZEL PRETZELS" coming out to support!
5-06-2008 We have added another event to the SoCal bike fest. We are having a Mountain bike drag race. It is a
straight up side by side drag race where the winner moves on. There will be no categories or divisions. The race is free
with cash to the top 3 ( $50-1st, $25-2nd, $15-3rd). The course is a 50 meter all out drag race on the dirt. It will be a
straight away with no techy stuff at all. Pure speed! Super fun!
5-06-2008 The Preride times have been changed for this coming weekend.
Here are the hard times for this coming weekends prerides.
1:30 pm (afternoon) ride #1
8:00 pm (evening) ride #2 night ride
Please bring lights to the night ride. There will not be any charging stations or support!
We will meet at the go kart track start and finish.
4-17-2008 The course map is up for the June 14th 12 Hour race! click here for map
4-15-2008 Hello Racers,
I hope you all are ready for the upcoming “ 12 Hours of Temecula “ #2. We have been super busy prepping the course,
making it fun and challenging. The June 14th race is filling up fast and it looks like we will have a great racer turnout!
We will be leading a preride of the course on may 10th. We will have 2 rides that day. The first ride will be at 8:00 am
and the second ride will 8:00 pm. So you get a little taste of the night. Please if you are coming for the preride be
prepared to pay the Vail Lake day fee of $5. You can check in at the front office.
We appreciate all the support the SoCal bike community has shown us over the last few years. Our series has grown
and become one of the premier endurance destinations in SoCal. This series is for the racers, by the racers. That is
why we constantly strive to make our venues better and better. For the upcoming 2009 season we have already started
scouting new venues in and around the SoCal area. I can’t wait to let the cat out of the bag for future venues. But I have
to wait and solidify permits. I am also very excited about the Bike park being built at Vail Lake resort. It has been a long
time coming and the need is great for us to have a place for all styles of cycling to come together!
If you are not familiar with the bike park being built at Vail Lake Resort, let me tell you a little secret. A local world
champion pro mountain biker has been contracted in to build a network of downhill trails to compliment the huge network
of xc trails. Over time there will be a full shuttle service and rating system for the trails at Vail. A map of the trails and
area is in the works and will hopefully be up and running soon! There are already a few DH trails in place and being
ridden.
We are looking for venders who are interested in coming out to the events and setting up booths and displays. We like
to cater to the industry and help out others business ventures as much as possible. We already have a great array of
folks coming out to the events but more stuff in the venue area would be great. If you are interested in getting involved
please email me at jr@12hrsoftemecula.com .
We are also looking for volunteers to help out with the races. The more people involved at the racers the better. Any
and all help is appreciated. You will be well taken care of with food and drinks all day long. Please contact
jr@12hrsoftemecula.com for more info.
A quick note about the upcoming “ Southern California Bike Festival “ Sept 6-7. This festival is going to be an awesome
venue with brand new events for the racing and riding community. We are introducing a brand new event called “ AM
Cross (all mountain cross). AM Cross is an event for the all mountain bike riders. It will consist of technical uphill climbs
and super fun technical downhill runs. The total laps will last about 20-30 minutes. There will be man made structures
and obstacles throughout the courses. The categories will include solo and teams of 2 riders. The criteria is simple, the
bikes must be a minimum of 5.5 inches of travel and the riders must stay between the race tape. If you race a team
there will be a point on the course where you will physically tag your partner. This format will be super fun and should be
able to viewed by the public the whole way.
The short track for the Bike Festival will be unlike any other short track. It is going to be short and sweet with fun
technical climbs and fast furious short descents. You have to have some bike skills to be good at this event. The entire
event will take place in a completely visible area at Vail Lake. So you can cheer all your friends and family the whole
time.
Also look for the fast and fun Mountain Bike Drag Race. This race will be a short 50 yard stretch of flat where you will go
all out head to head with someone for all out speed. Short and sweet!
All in all we are looking to have a super fun time and give you all a great weekend of memories and challenge! There will
be food and drink and a great vender area showcasing the latest in the bike industry swag. Also check out the kids
races and the super fun crazy races for adults happening all day long!
I look forward to seeing you all at the upcoming “12 Hours Of Temecula #2 June 14th” It will be a great time for one and
all. So come on out and join us for some fun in the sun!
3-07-2008 We have been putting in a lot of time and effort getting the new AM Cross race format dialed in. Basically it is
a 20-30 minute race that includes technical climbing and for half the race and then a technical downhill second half. The
focus will be on teams of 2 riders. They will tag off at the top about at the half way point. So one rider goes up and the
other goes down. Of course we will also have solo ironman catagories!
3-07-2008 Well we should have the new map for the June 14th 12 hour course up soon! It is going to involve a lot of
new trail and sections. Very fun and fast!
2-27-2008 We are just in the process of solidifying the Cal State Endurance series with Team Bigfoot. Our January race
will count for points towards the end of the year finals. Stay tuned this week for more info on this!
2-24-2008 Hope everyone is doing well with the 2008 racing year starting to rock and roll! Registration is up and rocking
for the June 14th race. Just a quick note before I send out an email blast to all racers. The first 100 racers to sign up for
the June 14th race will get free event t-shirts. The course is a work in progress and is looking super fun! We will be
going up the damn climb. But we will be taking a new ridgeline descent that is super fun and fast!
1-30-2008 The first batch of photos are up and the quality is awesome! Check them out www.egofoto.com
1-30-2008 Preliminary Results are in! Check it out! RESULTS
1-29-2008 What a great weekend of racing! You guys rocked the course and made putting this event on a lot of fun!
With great weather and amazing attitudes from our racers this event turned out to be one of the best ever. It will prime
us up for the June 14th race.
1-29-2008 Results are currently being worked on and should be up by tonight.
1-29-2008 Due to some contracting mishaps and pure bad luck the Mar 1-2 Bike
festival will be cancelled at this time. I am sorry for the late news. But this one
was out of our hands. But I will tell you that the Bike Festival in September is
going to be one of the biggest baddest events in Southern Cal history. We are
pulling out all the stops to make it a truly awesome event!
1-24-2008 After working on the trails and the venue all day I truly wish I was riding this race. The course is running
super fast and tacky. The weather looks like it may hold out for us for Saturday. The forecast says few showers and
patchy clouds with a low in the 40's. Much warmer than this time last year! This will be the last update before the race
this weekend. I look forward to seeing all of you and having a great time at Vail Lake!
1-21-2008 Looks like we may be racing in the rain this coming weekend. So bring your umbrellas and arm warmers
cause the race is on! My crew and I will be in full support mode for the race come rain or shine. I think the rains will be
light and patchy most of the day. Which will make for a super fast course. Vail Lake holds water very well. The soil is
mostly DG ( gravel ) and often sandy in the summer months. I do most the best trail work in the rain. There is very little
mud and the trails get very tacky. So rain or shine we'll see you in the dirt!
1-20-2008 Quick course change - the trail known as "Vic's trail" will not be in the Jan 26th race. This portion of trail
would have been right after the " Tunnel Of Love ". Now you will bypass the 1/2 mile section and procede to the BMX
section.
1-20-2008 What a great weekend of prerides. I have been out on the course all weekend marking trail and getting
prepped for the race. The course is getting better and better! Registration is looking real good. Our pro classes are
getting deeper every day. There are more pro riders signed up than any other race! So come on out and race with the
best!
1-15-2008 The trails will be marked this week for all the racers and support crews to come out on this coming weekend
and preride. I will also be out working on the course and checking things out. If you have any questions for me I'm the
short guy whose all dirty and probably hasn't shaved. Plus I'll have my ever trusty trail companion Jake the wonder dog!
1-15-2008 Thanks to Cycopath Bike store here in Temecula, we will be giving away a Trek Cruiser bike at each one of
the 12 Hours Of Temecula Races this year! Les you rock I appreciate your SUPPORT! www.cycopath.com

1-07-2008 Hall of Famer David " Tinker" Juarez the legend is coming out to race at our little race series. I am super
excited to have Tinker at our race. I have been a big fan for a long time. I can remember racing a 24 Hour race and
having him in front of me in the wee hours of the morning. All I kept thinking was " if I could only be that good for that
long".
